LEE COUNTY COUNCIL CALLED MEETING

JUNE 18, 2019 MAIN COURT ROOM – SECOND FLOOR OF THE COURTHOUSE

Members present were Travis Windham, Chairman; Gordon Eckley, Vice-Chairman, Charles A. Beasley, member; Johnette Caughman, member; Ron Fountain, member. Staff present were Alan Watkins, Administrastor; Julie Stokes, Assistant Administrator/Clerk to Council, Paul Fata. Others present were Matt Hicks, Bill Conway, Dr. Wanda Andrews, Andrew Moses, Danny Simon, Queenie Boyd, Regitt James, Sylvia Scott, Gee Whetsel. FOIA Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, all individuals requesting notifications were so notified.

OPEN MEETING, INVOCATION AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG

Chairman Windham called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone. Vice-Chairman Eckley gave the invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

REQUEST FOR MOTION ON ADOPTION OF THIRD AND FINAL READING OF ORDINANCE

A. LEE COUNTY BUDGET FY 20

Mr. Watkins said that the budget was balanced at $13,713,064.00, with a 2 mil tax increase. He said this mill increase will generate approximately $55-60,000. This budget also includes a 1% COL raise and had to accommodate mandated increase in pension. Vice-Chairman Eckley made the motion to approve the Lee County Budget FY 20 for third and final reading. Councilman Beasley seconded the motion. Chairman Windham called for the vote, and motion carried. All voted in favor.

B. LEE COUNTY SCHOOL BUDGET FY 20 Mr. Watkins recognized Dr. Andrews and school board members present. He said the school district requested the maximum millage increase of 3.4 for a total millage rate of 145.4. He said this would equate to $80,000 new funding and taxes are generated off of commercial and rental properties at a rate of 4%. Chairman Windham read a statement about the council’s position in funding the school district. (please see attached)

Councilman Fountain seconded the motion. Chairman Windham called for the vote, and motion carried. All voted in favor.
